About Me

Hi, I’m Fiona Herbert: writer, storyteller and editor.
I believe we all need stories. In my work as an oral storyteller, I tell traditional tales but also create my own original tales. As well as performing and writing, I train aspiring tellers in performance skills.
I also provide editorial services for written work, and I have a thorough training in proofreading and proof editing through the CIEP (Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading). I am a Partner Member of ALLi (Alliance of Independent Authors) which means I meet this trusted organisation’s standards of ethics and excellence when working with writers. For more information on hiring me as your proofreader or editor, please click on ‘Editorial services.’
As a storyteller, I entertain both adults and older children (from aged five upwards). I am award-winning; in 2012 I was the first woman to win the National Tall Tales Storytelling Competition, winning again in 2015. I run storytelling and creative writing workshops for children, and for adults I provide training in storytelling for both personal and professional development. I help both commercial and non-profit organisations develop their own stories and the skills to tell them well. I am listed in the Professional Directory through TRACS (Traditional Arts and Culture Scotland), and I am eligible for subsidy through the Live Literature Scheme, administered by the Scottish Book Trust.
